The counter investigation recently run by Anthony’s defence team destroys the testimony of the only witness presented at the trial: Ronald Kirkland. It casts doubts on the ethics of the Prosecution.
1. Ronald Kirkland, presented by the Prosecution as the only viable witness at the trial, lied: he could never have seen Anthony Mungin quit the murder scene, as he pretended.
A new witness, the first person who truly arrived on the murder scene, testifies today that he could never have identified the man he saw coming out of the store. Although the Police noted his identity and testimony at the time, he was never contacted later. According to him, Ronald Kirkland arrived much later on the murder scene and therefore couldn’t have identified the murderer.
2. The Prosecution has inappropriately withheld the testimony of the only witness and put forward a false report at trial.
Ronald Kirkland’s testimony was the basis for the Prosecution’s case. Never was any reference made to the existence of the other true witness, who was though a well-respected citizen, with no criminal charges like Ronald Kirkland.
He is categorical: the version of events as presented in the Police record is false.
3. Charles G. Cofer, Anthony’s previous assistant defender in charge of his defence at his trial, and sitting today as a court judge, testifies now in his favour.
He trusted at the time the veracity of the Police report. Today, he declares that having the testimony of the newly discovered witness would have made a tremendous difference at Anthony’s trial. He clearly states that the Prosecution never allowed him to get access to a true and exact report of the facts.
Today the Federal Judge has suspended the Federal proceedings, and the State Court now has to decide whether Anthony Mungin should get a new trial. In other cases, the Supreme Court of Florida has already taken position on the fact that withholding evidence favourable to the defence violates the rights of the defendant, under the 14th amendment.
More than 15 years have transformed Anthony Mungin’s heart.
Very rigorous in the code of conduct he has fixed for himself, a strong believer in God, he has the desire to transform his personal experience into positive actions for Society. Since 1999, he has been helping youngsters who started writing to him after they saw his poems on the Internet.
« My heart goes out to troublesome youngsters because I “see” myself in them. And I want to help them because I am confident I can! That is what I want to do with my life! It is not an act. It is my heart to do it. So, please tell people that. (…) I can explain my heart’s desire to help youngsters understand how wrong decisions can lead them down a path that can lead to prison. I could influence and encourage them to make better choices and strive to further their education. I could use my past mistakes as examples. I could inspire them to believe in themselves and pursue legitimate careers. I could do it, if given the opportunity, because I know how to relate to troublesome youngsters: I’ve been there. Perhaps I could persuade the adults presiding over organizations created to help youngsters or juvenile correctional facilities out there to give me a chance to work or speak with these kids (…). Once they see how the kids respond to me, they (adults) will be impressed… »
Those youngsters trust Anthony Mungin. They listen to him and take his opinions on board. He has convicted some adolescents not to commit suicide; he has convinced some others not to give up school. Through his personal letters or his poems written in a style appealing to the youth from the streets, he has managed to reach out to the hearts of those who have lost any sense of hope.
The famous French star singer Renaud and the golden record rap singer Sefyu have had the generosity to actively participate in Anthony Mungin’s defence. A big thank you to them!
